Speaking & Workshops

AI is everywhere, and everyone seems to be either terrified of it or convinced it will solve everything. I’m neither. I’ve spent the last few years actually using AI in my classroom, my workflow, and my prep — figuring out what’s genuinely useful, what’s hype, and what to tell the people who have to live with it every day.

That’s what I bring to a stage: not predictions, but practice. I’ve been teaching web development and technology at SAIT for over 14 years, building for the web for more than 25, and podcasting for over a decade. When I speak, audiences get someone who has done the work — and who won’t put them to sleep doing it.

“This is the best professional development we’ve had.”

Signature Talks

Decoding AI: From Uncertainty to Implementation

My flagship presentation, and the one audiences keep talking about, literally. Six months after one session, the organizer told me their team was still discussing it.

Decoding AI cuts through both the hype and the fear. We look at what AI actually is, what it’s genuinely good at, where it falls down, and how to build an “AI toolbelt” that makes you more effective without handing over the final product. My guiding principle throughout: I never let an AI create or commit the final product — and I’ll show you why that principle matters.

This talk comes in two versions, each built for its audience:

For educators: How AI is changing the classroom, what to use, what to skip, and what to tell your students. Grounded in my day-to-day experience teaching post-secondary students who are already using these tools whether we like it or not.

For organizations: How teams can put AI to work as a capable intern: drafting, summarizing, researching, and accelerating — while keeping humans firmly in charge of the finished work.

Format: Keynote or half-day workshop. Recent deliveries: SAIT (June 2025), a Calgary Board of Education high school PD day (February 2026).

Podcasting for Beginners

Over 400 episodes into my own podcast, I’ve made every mistake so your audience doesn’t have to. This session covers the essentials of starting a podcast that actually lasts: planning, gear that won’t break the budget, recording, editing, publishing, and — the part everyone underestimates — staying consistent past episode ten.

Ideal for: Community groups, marketing teams, educators, and anyone who’s been saying “I should start a podcast” for more than a year.

Working Smarter with AI: Practical Efficiency for Teachers

A hands-on companion to Decoding AI, focused entirely on the day-to-day. We build real prompts for real teaching tasks — lesson planning, feedback, differentiation, admin work — and cover the prompting techniques that separate a frustrating AI experience from a genuinely useful one.

Format: Works best as an interactive workshop where participants bring their laptops and leave with prompts they’ll actually use.
